The Year of Chicago Music 2020


Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot and DCASE kick off the year of Chicago music February 3,2020. The Kickoff announcing” Chicago In Tune” – A new citywide celebration of music in the key of Chicago.” This will happen in Chicago from May 21st -June 7th, 2020. The New event is all part of the 2020 Year of Chicago Music, which will be investing $3.5 million in Sector Building Grants, Neighborhood Support, Artist Professional Development and Youth Arts Program and Public Programing Across the City.


Mayor Lori Lightfoot joined forces with Mark Kelly Commissioner of the Department of Cultural Affair and Special Event (DCASE) and members of the Chicago music and arts and cultural scene to kickoff the 2020 Year of Chicago Music. During this event they featured live music from some of Chicago’s most talented band and musicians, the city announced highlights for the 2020 year of Chicago Music and details of Chicago In Tune. The new 18-day celebration of music at venues and organization across the city. Chicago In Tune will include the Chicago House Music Conference and Festival (May 21-23), the Gospel Music Festival (May 26-30) and the Chicago Blues Festival (June 5-7). These festivals will future headlining performances by artist Steve “silk” Hurley of S&S Chicago, The Tommies Reunion Choir, Kirk Franklin, Shemekia Copland, Candi Staton and Eric Gales.

Lightfoot.” With the Year of Chicago Music, Chicago will be celebrating Chicago’s sounds and rhythms with countless shows, festivals performances throughout the year, along with an international marketing campaign showcasing Chicago’s status as a global music capital in all forms.  Just importantly the City will also be providing Chicago musicians professional support, artistic grants and career development opportunities to ensure musicians have the resources and support they need to play throughout 2020 and beyond. 


This is a global campaign that will go way beyond 2020 in Chicago for its branding positioning for the city. Commissioner Mark Kelly of DCASE, what Chicago is  doing is creating a branding and marketing strategies that will go around the world way passed 2020, so that people five years from now will want to fucking flock to the city of Chicago for world class festivals, venues and music showcases.
