Arooj Aftab is a Brooklyn-based Pakistani composer, vocalist, and producer who sings traditional South Asian music for today’s audience. Aftab distinctive musical styles draws from idioms, jazz, minimalism, Hindustani classical music, and neo-Sufi sounds. Arooj Aftab became the first Pakistani artist to win a Grammy when she won the Best Global Music Performance award. Her latest album, Vulture Prince, has received rave reviews, earning a coveted spot on the Best Albums of 2021 lists from NPR, Time, and the Guardian, among others. she promoted her music in the early 2000s mostly in Pakistan being one of the first artist to use the internet, thus helping to launch the indie music scene in her native country.
